5 Tips To Get Your First Job In Web Development
As a junior web developer one of the hardest steps in my journey was exactly when I started actually to search for my first job.
Well, it is was really difficult. Like REALLY difficult.
Here I would like to share some tips about what I did to actually get my first job.
1. Motivation ✊
When you are a junior web developer it is really very important to be passionate about what you are doing.
It is one of the keys that can make the difference between you and the other candidates.
Why is it important? As you don't have enough experience to get the job, you have to prove that you are able to learn fast and you really like what you are doing. The company can see it and hire you just for that, knowing that you can learn fast and bring something useful to them.
2. Side-projects 💼
It is not a secret that to become a web developer you have to practice a lot and work on your side-projects.
Personally, I have never been asked to show any of my projects but often I got a question about my Github profile where fortunately I got some projects.
However, it is better to have at least something to show in case if anybody asks you and also for your personal growth.
3. Personal website 💻
It can be also considered as a side-project but often it is better, however, to keep it simple but functional.
Creating your personal website is highly recommended because it can already show your personality and make it easier to contact you.
You don't have to build anything really difficult and animated to impress the company, it has to be clean, bugs-free, and mobile-friendly.
4. Online presence 🚀
Yes, it is something that can really help you to be seen by the recruiters.
You like it or not, but you need to have a Linkedin profile and work on it well. I mean, to have clear information about yourself, a nice profile photo and all the information about your previous experience.
So you can get attention from recruiters and to be found by the keywords.
Another social network that I would recommend is of course Twitter.
It can give you the possibility to participate in a great Tech Community and to be helped in your search.
5. Good CV 📝
Even if it is really obvious to speak about the CV in the article about searching a work, there are still some important things where it is better to pay attention.
First of all, you don’t need to be a designer, your CV can be really simple but clean and informative.
Other thing, try to avoid writing any scores. Like you know 70% of CSS because it means really not much for a recruiter.
Use keywords and some simple description of who you are. Sometimes the person reading your CV is not really an IT person.
The last important things is of course to avoid the typography mistakes.
I hope these tips were helpful for you and I really hope that the junior developers one day would have less problems in searching for a job.
Good luck! 🍀
